About The Club

The club was formed on Tuesday 25th August 2009 by Steve Garley.  He discovered that a lot of the churches in and around Southampton had football teams, and came across the Solent Football Churches League. After putting out an advert on the internet for players, Steve received lots of replies and called a meeting on Tuesday 25th August 2009, where everyone met each other for the first time. Steve contacted the league and confirmed Hedge End MFC's entry for the 2009-2010 season.

In their first season as a club, they finished bottom of the league, winning only two of their matches all season. The team who were made up of guys who hardly knew each other, grew as a team and started gelling. They started picking up wins and peforming better, bonding off the pitch at the same time.

Their second season was much more of a sucess, after being top of the league for the majority of the season, the team finished in second place, one goal off of top. Due to the restructuring of the league, Hedge End MFC were moved into division two.

The club grew bigger and bigger throughout their second season and so started a second team called Hedge End MFC Blues, which started its first ever season of competitive football in 2011. The original team are now called Hedge End MFC Reds.

The team consists of players who are religious and attend church, but also consists of players who are not religious, but have respect for all. On average the team is fairly young, mostly in their twenties, however there are of course, more experienced older players too.

The team was formed to enjoy all aspects of playing. Not just the winning (although that is good too!), but the taking part, having fun, and generally enjoying yourself is the main aim. Both teams represent the Hedge End Methodist Church, St Johns Road, Hedge End, Southampton.

If you can run, kick roughly in the right direction, and would like to join our wonderful team, then why not click the link at the top called 'Interested in joining?', and we'll be happy to go from there.
